No, unfortunately that is just the name I give myself. I believe the word you are looking for is: sommelier. Wikipedia actually has a wonderful definition.

But, I will take your question as a compliment!

Thanks.

I am doing research. And I am inquiring if the person that serves wine at a fine restaurant is in fact called the "Winnoisseur"

Thank You for your help.

Just bought my first box of Franzia today, the Shiraz. A couple of weeks ago I bought a box of OZ, from South Australia. It was really great, a full Australian Shiraz. So I am very curious to see whether this 5L party box actually tastes like an ok Shiraz. Any experiences out there?

I wish my Target was legally allowed to carry wine. I usually go to Target to grab soda and candy before I go to the movies, so this would just be an added bonus that would increase my viewing pleasure.

Hi Julie!

I know Merlot isn't so fashionable these days, but I prefer them and read about them on occasion. Caught the Wall Street Journal's rundown on them recently. In the top-tier price range they have clung to Pine Ridge for many years apparently. What a coincidence that you stopped in there!

In the low $20s range for vintage 2004, they were dismally disappointed in the varieties almost completely, but liked Kendall-Jackson. I saw it at my local liquor store for $16.95, so maybe I'll compare it to my Red Diamond 2004 which they recently brought in at $7.95! It's from Washington state.

Is Pine Ridge approx $40?

Hope you are doing well these days. We're a little worried about my dad who is going in on Monday for catherization on his heart. He has been complaining about pain in his left arm when he eats, so they will check to see if there's blockage. He was told to be prepared for angioplasty possibly or even surgery depending on what the doctor finds.

He had triple bypass surgery about 4 or 5 years ago.

Here at work we're apprehensive about job cuts to be announced early in June. 400 cuts were made in Jan. The new executive recruits have addressed us with their plans and they appear very talented, polished and smart so we are hopeful for the Talbots brand, but can't be sure if we will be around. I've already been in touch with my headhunter! I've hardly been settled here and like they say, you don't know what's around the bend.

Well, besides all that, Jeremy and I are doing fine and getting to know Boston. Next month we're driving down the Cape for a week in Provincetown!

Best to you!

Boxed wine to me is like Gerber is to babies. I started out with them, but I don't think I'll ever go back. Yeah, that sounds really snotty, but I can't help it. However, if that was the only wine offered at a party and I was crazy enough not to bring some bottled wine, you can bet I'd be mooching off of the Franzia.

You've probably already discovered the syrahs from the Carneros and Russian Valley regions of Napa. They probably have the best tasting, IMO. In terms of cabernets, I would only touch Hess in that area. Happy days to you!

Yes, I have! Willamette Valley is one of my favorite destinations on the West Coast. Thanks for the tip on the Syrahs; it gives me a reason to peruse the wine store :)

Glad you had a great experience. Have you had any of the Oregon Pinots? I would also suggest the Syrahs from Columbia Gorge wineries. Cheers!
